Ø  General description Hawthorn combination is a circulatory system stimulant.  Its primary action is to increase coronary blood flow.  This formula is particularly effective in treating chronic weaknesses of the circulatory system such as atherosclerosis.

Another way to cleanse the body of toxins is by stimulating blood circulation, which increases blood flow to muscles and joints.  To accomplish this without straining the heart, we can use herbs that stimulate peripheral circulation.

Chinese herbalists would describe this combination as a fire enhancing formula.  It also enhances the earth and metal elements while reducing the wood and waters.

Hawthorn combination has traditionally been used to treat dropsy, atherosclerosis, thrombosis, hyperlipidemia, hypercholesterolemia, edema, heart weakness and angina pains.

This formula is commonly used in conjunction with the vitamin D family, polyunsaturated fish oils, and low sodium, low protein vegetarian diet.

Imbalances: indicating the use of this formula is commonly noted in the heart acupressure point on the left side of the lower sternum. Imbalances are often noted at the 2:30 position of the left iris.  Use caution in cases of inflammatory conditions of the gastrointestinal tract.
